The Grass Family Reunion played and recorded free form improvisational music in Saint Louis Missouri between 1997 and 2003. Almost all of these recordings were made with a Radio Shack tape cube and a Shure SM57 microphone. Members include: Steve Grass, Terry Goetz, Dan MacQue, Paul Hiatt, Don Cole, Jerry Green, John Goddard and Dan "B Flat" Hotz. This session was recorded at the legendary Jefferson house, birthplace of Frank Moskus and home to half of GFR between 1997 and 2000. I think this recording is from 1998. Dan MacQue, Steve Grass, Paul Hiatt and Terry Goetz alternate between instruments.
Short and sweet with minimal mixing. Features Matthew Bandy, Caural, Key Tronics Ensemble (and various cuts from the "Far Out Bachelor Pad Music" compilation), Thievery Corp and Green Chili Go Go Dust.

Mining for songs in 1998, I wrote 78 two minute vignettes in two weeks and recorded them on a Tascam 244. To get something besides a completely dry tone, I ran a Shure SM57 through a Digitech RP6 guitar effects multi-pedal. The resulting squishy sound seemed to fit the one take slop method I used to get as many ideas down as quickly as possible.
